The State Consultant for Speech-Language Pathology functions in a variety of ways to support and improve the provision of speech and language services in the schools.  Services provided include or involve:

·  Consultation and technical assistance to individuals and/or districts on a variety of communication and service delivery issues;

·  Provision of continuing professional education information in the form of training, resource materials, and referrals to other sources, based on periodic needs assessment and awareness of state-level initiatives;

·  Representation of school-based speech-language pathologists’ interests within the Department of Education, Special Education, and other relevant entities or agencies;

·  Maintenance of an email distribution system that provides professional news and information, and a means for intrastate communication among speech-language pathologists, related service providers, and educational personnel;

·  Maintenance of a resource and equipment loan program which includes professional texts, assessment tools, and auditory trainers; and

·  Attendance as necessary of local and national conferences and seminars to develop and maintain knowledge of best practices in the field.
